Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Scott Kelby, author of The Digital Photography Book, volume 1 (the world’s best-selling digital photography book of all time), is back with a follow-up to his volume 2 smash best seller, with an entirely new book that picks up right where he left off. It’s even more of that “Ah ha—so that’s how they do it,” straight-to-the-point, skip-the-techno-jargon stuff you can really use today to make your shots even better.

This book truly has a brilliant premise, and here’s how Scott describes it: “If you and I were out on a shoot and you asked me, ‘Hey Scott, I want the light for this portrait to look really soft and flattering. How far back should I put this softbox?’ I wouldn’t give you a lecture about lighting ratios, or flash modifiers. In real life, I’d just turn to you and say, ‘Move it in as close to your subject as you possibly can, without it actually showing up in the shot.’ Well, that’s what this book is all about: you and I out shooting where I answer questions, give you advice, and share the secrets I’ve learned, just like I would with a friend—without all the technical explanations and techie photo speak.”

Each page covers a single concept on how to make your photography better. Every time you turn the page, you’ll learn another pro setting, tool, or trick to transform your work from snapshots into gallery prints. If you’re tired of taking shots that look “okay,” and if you’re tired of looking in photography magazines and thinking, “Why don’t my shots look like that?” then this is the book for you.

This isn’t a book of theory—full of confusing jargon and detailed concepts. This is a book on which button to push, which setting to use, and when to use it. With nearly 200 more of the most closely guarded photographic “tricks of the trade,” this book gets you shooting dramatically better-looking, sharper, more colorful, more professional-looking photos every time.

1 out of 5 stars disappointed   March 3, 2010

I love Scott Kelby but thisbook disappointed me. I was misled by he title. I expected a full book on camera techniques but what I got was intended for the professional photographer with lighting set-ups that are not in my range of interests.

4 out of 5 stars Digital photography cook book   February 20, 2010

A good follow up for Scott Kelby's previous two books. I was expecting a little more detail on lenses. But true to form Scott just tells you how to get great shots. And that's just fine. I do recommend his books for all amateur (like me) photographers.

5 out of 5 stars Another Awesome Kelby Book   February 19, 2010
Smullis (Colorado)
I love this book. I do have the first two...which are great as well. Scott writes in a fashion that is more like talking to a friend than getting an analytical talk-down-to by a pro. The book is a very easy read and while some of the material may have been covered in the other two books, Scott touches on the topics again based on questions he has recieved from the other books. He does not cover the repeated material in that much detail, but reiterates the topic to satisfy those of his customer base who requested that info. I can't wait for Book 4!!

4 out of 5 stars Good book   February 15, 2010

It is useful book. It helped me to review already known skills/knowledge and also taught me some new skills/knowledge.

5 out of 5 stars Big Fan   February 11, 2010

I'm a big fan of this series. It really cuts to the chase and has helped me improve my game enormously. This volume adds information; it's not just a rehash of Volumes 1 & 2. Where I found it most helpful was in cutting to the chase in setting up remote control flash units. Continuing the tips begun in Volume 2, it saved me a lot of time and did away with having to navigate the overly technical Nikon flash manual.

The intro pages to each section are getting sillier and sillier, so I just skip over those. But the real content in the ensuing pages makes the purchase very worthwhile. It's written so anyone can understand it.
