For advanced PS users July 22, 2010 Kai U. Zilger (San Jose) If you are new to Photoshop, be aware that this book is not for beginners. It does not give you step-by-step directions on how to use certain functions. The video tutorial is very helpful to close some of these gaps. I consider myself a rookie and I had to pull some guidance from the web. Nevertheless I do not regret to have purchased this book since one will get very quickly familiar with the basic functionality of PS and then the books becomes a valuable source for trying out more advanced features.
rip off cost June 23, 2010 Uwe H. B. Jansch (RSA) 1 out of 4 found this review helpful
Hi, I think it is a total rip off to give less than one US Dollar discount for the electronic version, considering the saving of production cost.
Now that is exciting the publishing industry. Profits from dummies.
Regards
Uwe
An accompanying DVD offers two hours of video tutorials and images from the book to work with alongside text June 18, 2010 Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA) Adobe Photoshop CS4 for Photographers is a fine reference offering an extensive revision of photographer Martin Evening's celebrated Photoshop 'bible'. It's been fully updated for CS4 and is packed with tutorials, illustrations and screen shots, tips on how to use a digital camera and how to get a handle on CS4's new features. An accompanying DVD offers two hours of video tutorials and images from the book to work with alongside text, making this an especially important acquisition for classroom or supplemental textbook study.
Packaging OK; Packing NOT June 14, 2010 benchmark (So. Cal.) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
Book arrived today. About the first 20 pages from the inside front cover were severely bent over (dog-ear) and creased. The plastic heat shrink wrapping around the book and cardboard stiffener just reinforced the dog-ear pages and creases during packaging. I bought the book for personal use but the PACKING condition would have been reviewed as UNSATISFACTORY if I bought this book as a gift. Packaging protection and size were satisfactory but the PACKING of the book itself was not. I gave a three stars because the book itself is very useful and a great Photoshop CS4 reference.
Book's condition May 17, 2010 Stanley Yong (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
For every books that I purchased from Amazon, dented marks can be visible on at least one corner (if not two or more) of the book. Books that are shipped from Amazon do not provide sufficient padding to secure the book, leaving free space for it to move around during the delivery.
As for this book, the dented corners are more significant because of it's weight. Unfortunately, I cannot provide you any photos of the dent since it is already being wrapped. I take care of my books seriously and all of them are wrapped on received or purchased. To be honest, the reason for me to purchase from Amazon is merely because it is cheaper than those selling in major bookstores in Malaysia.
My confidence level on the way Amazon ship their good is very low. Therefore, I don't expect to receive a perfect condition of the books on arrival. And true enough, the book that I recently received has dented marks on it. If I were to purchase a Canon lens for my DSLR from Amazon, I am worried that I would have received a cracked or non-functional lens.
For price wise, I find the books/items that Amazon sell is much cheaper than similar books/items found in Malaysia. But, the way Amazon handle the goods is so bad that I will not even think of buying a more fragile or expensive items from Amazon. I am sure those items will not survived the journey!
2 stars was given for this item review:
1) Cheap
2) Books arrived on expected condition (I am expecting it to be dented)
