Product Description
In his acclaimed national best seller, A Fighter’s Heart, Sam Sheridan took readers with him as he stepped through the ropes into the dangerous world of professional fighting. From a muay Thai bout in Bangkok to Rio, where he trained with jiu-jitsu royalty, to Iowa, where he matched up against the toughest in MMA, Sheridan threw himself into a quest to understand how and why we fight. In The Fighter’s Mind, Sheridan does for the brain what his first book did for the body. To uncover the secrets of mental strength and success, Sheridan interviewed dozens of the world’s most fascinating and dangerous men, including celebrated trainers Freddie Roach and Greg Jackson; champion fighters Randy Couture, Frank Shamrock, and Marcelo Garcia; ultrarunner David Horton; legendary wrestler Dan Gable, and many more. What are their secrets? How do they stay committed through years of training, craft a game plan, and adjust to the realities of the ring? How do they project strength when weak, and remain mentally tough despite incredible physical pain? A fascinating book, bursting at the seams with incredible stories and insight, The Fighter’s Mind answers these questions and many more.

Blown Away August 27, 2010 Mason R. Astley III (Boston) I honestly wasn't sure what to expect from this book, but I really loved it. It taps into my interest in sport psychology, and it doesn't just pay the subject a little lip service. His interviews are generally great and they feature some MMA luminaries as well as some off-beat choices that make sense in the larger picture. I'm keeping this one near at hand for reference.
Must read for athletes, fight fans and grinders of all kinds August 3, 2010 Scott Burns (Littleton, Colorado)
I loved the Fighter's Heart and feel that this book was a good second punch. More interview and intuition based than the first book that drew on Sam's experience base but it is still really good. I probably bought and gave away 6 copies of the Fighter's Heart to my brothers and lovers of fighting, and passed my copy of The Fighter's Mind within days of finishing it. I see this as a great book series but no one captures the fighter like Sam Sheridan. As MMA grows bigger IO just see the audience for this book growing bigger.
Love it but a Caution July 18, 2010 Caestus (USA) I am a huge fan of the author's previous work, "A Fighter's Heart" and this book is equally as good. A caution I would pose to a reader: the book is great fun if you read it as a travelogue, rather than a true in depth analysis into sports psychology as it relates to fighting.
Insightful for the psychology of a champion July 2, 2010 C. Green (Monterey, CA) What seperates this book from other MMA books is that it is a study of the psychology of champions from a vast array of disciplines. I find the mindsets are just as applicable to other walks of life. As a Soldier, I see a direct translation to the Soldier's "Warrior Ethos". I highly recommend this book for anyone studying what it takes to be mentally tough. It is not what one might always think, with different fighters, you see different mindsets for different types of champions.
Quick Review June 15, 2010 BigMex (Chicago, Illinois) This book was fantastic! I love reading the stories from all the different fighters and love the flow of the book from the author. I usually do not take time to write reviews, but I had to make sure this writer gets credited with another 5 stars. I will be re-reading a few times over the next few years.
