Product Description The covenant that was meant to keep the wizard wars at bay has been stolen, and Trinity must prepare for attack. Everyone is doing their part -- Seph is monitoring the Weirwalls; Jack and Ellen are training their ghostly army; even Anaweir Will and Fitch are setting booby traps around the town's perimeter. But to Jason Haley, it seems like everyone wants to keep him out of the action. He may not be the most powerful wizard in Trinity, but he's prepared to fight for his friends. When Jason finds a powerful talisman --a huge opal called the Dragonheart--buried in a cave, his role takes on new importance. The stone seems to sing to Jason's very soul -- showing him that he is meant for more than anyone guessed. Trinity's guardians take the stone away after they realize that it may be a weapon powerful enough to save them all. Without any significant power of his own, and now without the stone, what can Jason possibly do to help the people he cares about -- and to prove his mettle? Madison Moss can feel the beating heart of the opal, too. The desire for it surges through her, drawing her to it. But Maddie has other things besides the Dragonheart on her mind. She has a secret. Ever since absorbing the magical blow that was meant to kill Seph, she's been leaking dark powers. Although Maddie herself is immune to magic, what would her friends think if they knew what kind of evil lay within her? Trinity's enemies are as enthusiastic about her powers as she is frightened. They think they can use her to get to the Dragonheart -- and they'll use anyone Maddie cares about to make her steal the stone for them. Moral compasses spin out of control as a final battle storms through what was once a sanctuary for the gifted. With so much to lose, what will Jason and Maddie be willing to fight for -- and what will they sacrifice? Every man is for himself in this thrilling conclusion to the Heir trilogy.

Could have been better January 6, 2009 When I first read The Warrior Heir I have to say I was more then impressed. I enjoyed the book and fell in love with all the characters. The second book was just as good, if not better than the first, the Wizard Heir. Unable to wait for The Dragon Heir to come out in paperback, I bought the hardback. Like the first 2 books I was hooked from page one. This story finds Seph hotter than ever, literally. Leesha is back and once again stirring things up. Jason has alot of the spotlight in this book as well as Maddie. The love between the characters is obovious in this book. However, there is death of a main character.
Over all this is a real page turner, like the first 2 books. The ending felt a bit rushed and fast. And I was disappointed to know what came about with Jack and Ellen. Do they live happily ever after raising little warrior babies??? Being the 2 characters that introduced me to this series, some closure would have been nice.
The quick ending aside, this is an excellent book for all ages and a must read again. I hope this author writes more, I look forward to more of her work.
Good but lacking January 2, 2009 Chima does a great job shaping this story and bringing it together with the previous two books in the series. But she makes some fatal flaws that many authors tend to do when finishing up a series. It is terrible when a major contributor to the story does not get the recognition they deserve. Spoilers ahead. Jason was a major contributor to this tale and he dies with no glory, his connection to the bigger picture was very played down. And I'm shaken by the role that Linda and Leander played in this story. They basically abandoned a bunch of inexperienced teenagers to take over a cache of magical weapons that were worthless in the end, they weren't even used to help with the battle. In fact, Linda and Leander never even returned so their presence in this story does not contribute much of anything at all. Though Madison is the central character of this story, Seph plays a huge role and I feel that the reader was never really shown just how powerful the author claimed he was. Overall, it's a good story but there are some major issues that do not get worked out and it leaves the reader feeling a bit empty. 3.5 stars is more deserving.
A great addition December 28, 2008 The book arrived as I finished the second book in the series, so I was able to continue the story without pause. This book, also grabbed me instantly and I could not put it down until I finished it. Too bad it was the end of a series. I enjoyed the characters created in the three stories and would like to know what happens to them.
Good, but needs more December 23, 2008 ***spoilers included***
I must say I was fairly pleased with the entire trilogy up until about the last hundred pages of The Dragon Heir. At that point poor storytelling took over from an interesting world, compeling characters, and one of those "how on earth are they going to get out of this" situations. The challenge is to resolve those situations satisfactorially. Unfortunately Chima went with a deus ex machina ending that hinged on none of the main characters. Instead of climactic decisions revealing deep character, their problems are solved by an external force. I will say that if there is a seqeul that addresses the character issues left hanging I will revise my opinions on this one - treating it as a short stopping point in the development of an otherwise strong series. Until then my thoughts on this series will be marred by things such as Jason's pointless death with no resolution to any of the issues he dealt with and Madison being forced into power without addressing any of the choices she must now make, Seph's drug use, and so on.
From J. Kaye's Book Blog December 5, 2008 While trying to break into Raven's Ghyll, Jason Haley stumbles upon a treasure trove. Among the treasure he finds the Dragonheart, a stone with a great source of power. Once he shows it to Hasting, Hasting send Jason to Trinity to show Nick Snowbeard the stone. Trinity is becoming more and more of a target and the weir are getting attacked more often. Madison Moss is sent back to her family because of troubles, and Barber is on the move again. Seth is being worn out by all the pressure being put on him. He is set up as the new chief of security. The Roses and D'Orsay come together in a final attempted to get the dragonstone and wipe out Trinity.
The reading level on this book says 9 - 12. While it might be an easy to read book, I feel this was more for YAs. Han Alister is fifteen. In my opinion, that's a big age difference.
